Israeli Minister of Science, Technology and Space Visits Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum
On November 6, 2018, Mr. Ofir Akunis, the Israeli Minister of Science, Technology and Space, visited Shanghai Jewish Refugees Muesum, accompanied by Mayor of Hongkou District Zhao Yongfeng and Deputy Mayor Gao Xiang.
Mr. Ofir Okunis said that during the dark years of the Second World War, the Chinese people in Shanghai received the Jewish refugees with kindness and generosity, which helped preserve the root of the Jewish culture and showed the unparalleled righteousness of the Chinese people. The Jewish people will never forget this special history.
“Next year will mark the 80th anniversary of the arrival of European Jewish refugees in Shanghai. We hope to organize a series of commemorative activities in honor of this history. This memory will be used as a link to enhance cooperation and exchanges between two sides in science, technology, culture and economy."
Mayor Zhao Yongfeng expressed his hope that the Israeli Ministry of Science, Technology and Space could promote scientific and technological cooperation between Israel and Hongkou and play a role in the construction of Shanghai Science and Technology Innovation Center. He also introduced the expansion plan for Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum and hoped to get support from Israel.
