UNESCO Expert Meeting: Holocaust Education in a Global Context

  UNESCO Expert Meeting "Holocaust Education in a Global Context" was held in?its headquarters Paris at 9:30 am on Arpil 27, 2012. There were 31 participants from all over the world as well as?the?UNESCO Permanent Delegations of Belgium, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Sweden, Tanzania, Turkey, Uruguay and the United States of America attending the meeting. Ms. Rita Tian, representative of the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum, was invited and also participated to the meeting. The meeting was co-sponsored by the Topography of Terror Foundation Germany.

  Mr. Qian Tang, Assistant Director-General for Education UNESCO, delivered a short but warm welcome speech. He said that the mandate of the education department of UNESCO is to promote peace through education. The European countries took?some time to have full recognization towards the crime again the Jewish. Todays' meeting is very important and he?hopes holocaust can be used as an example or subject which can be taught to?the young generation?of the region where?has no?history of holocaust. It is because the holocaust?should not be regarded?as a part of a region or nation.?To the contrary, it?relates to all mankind.??The meeting went smoothly. The participants delivered profound speeches and deep lever discussions regarding to certain topics.
