The exhibition on Jewish Refugees & Shanghai opened in Haifa

  On the evening of February 23, 2012, the exhibition on Jewish Refugees and Shanghai, organized by the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum, opened in Haifa, Israel.

  Mr. Liu Yungeng, Chairman of the Standing Committee of Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress, Ms. Hedva Almog, Acting Mayor of Haifa Municipal Government, Ms. Gao Yanping, Chinese Ambassador to Israel, Mr. Yan Jianping, Chairman of the Standing Committee of Hongkou District People’s Congress, Mr. Haim Dotan, a renowned Israeli architect and Mr. Harold Yechiel Janklowicz, a representative of the former Shanghai Jewish refugees, spoke at the opening ceremony.

  The ceremony was crowned by a short video organized by the Association of Former Residents of China. The video depicts six former Shanghai Jewish refugees as they recollect their memories of their life in Shanghai and express their deep love towards Shanghai and the Chinese people.

  Around 200 people attended the opening ceremony, including the officials from Haifa and Shanghai, reporters and people from all walks of life.

  This exhibition has been specially designed for the twentieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Israel and China. It is also a sister-city event between Shanghai and Haifa, and between Hongkou and Kiryat Haim. It has been warmly received in Haifa.

  

  Officials from Shanghai and Haifa are visiting the exhibition. From right to left: Ms. Hedva Almog, Acting Mayor of Haifa Municipal Government, Mr. Liu Yungeng, Chairman of the Standing Committee of Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress, Mr. Yan Jianping, Chairman of the Standing Committee of Hongkou District People's Congress?and Mr. Eli Kulas, member of the Haifa City Council.

  

  Rita Reshef, one of the former Jewish refugees and now living in Israel, is introducing her life story to the reporters.
